A society is a body of individuals of a species, generally seen as a community or group, that is outlined by the bounds of functional interdependence, comprising also possible characters or conditions such as cultural identity, social solidarity, or eusociality. Human societies are characterized by patterns of relationships between individuals that share a distinctive culture or institutions. Like other groups, a society allows its individual members to achieve individual needs or wishes that they could not fulfill separately by themselves, without the existence of the social group. Society, however, may be unique in that it is ontologically independent of, and utterly irreducible to, the qualities of its constituent individuals. As a reality sui generis, or "of its own kind", it is emergently composed of social facts that often hinder rather than help the pursuits of the subjects that form its physical and psychological underpinnings.

More broadly, a society is an economic, social or industrial infrastructure, made up of a varied multitude of individuals. Members of a society may be from different ethnic groups. A society may be a particular ethnic group, such as the Saxons; a nation state, such as Bhutan; a broader cultural group, such as a Western society; or even a social organism such as an ant colony.

The word society may also refer to an organized voluntary association of people for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other purposes. Sociology is the study of society and social behavior.

what should society do to prevent innocent people from being accused and presumed guilty in the future?
Q. Many innocent people are being accused of crimes/sins they did not commit. They stay in the jail for years and they are innocent people, so how can society prevent these people from being accused if they are not guilty?
Asked by sarah A - Tue Oct 14 17:59:38 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. To prevent them from being accused? There is next to nothing. I mean it would be great if eyewitness accounts were perfect. It would be great if we could get DNA evidence or perfect fingerprints every time and everyone's DNA and fingerprints were in a National Database(and I DON'T support that being done, I believe in a right to privacy if you have yet to do anything to get them put in that database). To help end the assumption of guilt I DO have an idea that would help. Let's stop broadcasting that the person has been accused of a crime. Let's start worrying publishing the name AFTER the person is found guilty.

How has society s responsibility to individual needs changed in the last 10 years?
Q. How has society s responsibility to individual needs changed in the last 10 years? What do you think the role of human service workers will be in the future?

A. Today, the individual is more important than ever. 10 years is a very short time, so I can't cite a documented shift during that time. But people are not marginalized or left out because of individual differences as much as they used to be. For example, people with disabilities are being acknowledged and accommodated for their individual needs these days. 50 years ago, they would lump all children with disabilities (whether mental or physical) in the same classroom and give them a second-rate education. I think that society's responsibility has changed in that we care less about the good of the community. People no longer sacrifice themselves, or at least they're not quiet anymore if they're being ignored. Instead, we care about if our… [cont.]

How can any form of insurance function smoothly in a capitalistic society?
Q. Health, Auto, and Financial insurance. How in a capitalistic society can everyone be happy since supposedly in capitalistic society your money is only your money? Your money is what YOU have worked for? Insurance there is no guarantee that you will get the most out of the coverage because you may rarely file a claim. Any other Time you will pay monthly for something that might not happen. It seems like insurance and capitalism has nothing to do with each other and can't function without making a big mess.

Keep out of our village.
